ActivityMember of the Society of American Foresters, and President of the Society in 1923. As Chairman of the of the Conservation Commission of Hawaii, Hosmer was responsible for establishing the system of forest reserves in the Hawaiian Islands which protect the watersheds of the streams required for the irrigation of the main crop of the Territory-sugar cane. In 1914, he became Professor of Forestry and head of the Department of Forestry in the New York State College of Agriculture at Cornell. He served at Cornell till his retirement in 1942.
