| Aktivitet | The South Western Regional Board for Industry was one of eleven Regional Boards established to advise ministers and their departments upon industrial conditions within their region. Regional Boards as formally constituted, were set up in July 1942, as an outcome of the report of the Citroen committee. The general responsibility for their work was exercised by the ministry of production, whose regional controllers were chairmen of the boards, and the functions of these bodies were almost solely concerned with the production of munitions, and consequently with the engineering and allied industries. When the Ministry of Production closed, general responsibility for the regional boards passed to the Board of Trade, and their interests are now extended to cover all productive industry. Regional Board members were appointed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in consultation with the Trades Union Congress, the Federation of British Industries, the British Employers' Confederation, the National Union of Manufactures, the Association of British Chambers of Commerce, and the Regional Board Chairman concerned. The Departments represented regularly on the Regional Boards by their senior regional representatives are: Admiralty, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ministry of Fuel and Power, Ministry of Labour and National Service, Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Board of Trade, Ministry of Works and the Central Office of Information. Representatives of other Departments such as the Ministries of Health, Housing and Local Government, Education, and the General Post Office attend meetings of the Board as necessary. |
