AktivitetPolitician, Cripps was Labour MP for East Bristol from 1931. He was expelled from the Labour Party in 1939 for his extreme radical views and not re-admittted until 1945. In 1939 he visited India and Russia and on his return urged that Russia be persuaded to draw away from Germany. Churchill sent him as Ambassador to Moscow in 1940 and after Germany's invasion of Russia in June 1941 Cripps organised the pact of mutual assistance. He went to India in an attempt to gain support for the war and after his failure to do so he became the highly successful Minister of Aircraft Production until the end of the war. Immediately after the war he was Chancellor of the Exchequer with the hard task of persuading the nation to face the economic realities of the post war years. Ill health forced his resignation in 1950 and he died two years later.
