BeskrivelseAbout 20 letters from Leonard Elmhirst writing to Dorothy Straight, with three replies and additional telegrams. Leonard writes from Santiniketan including the annual report of the Visva-Bharati Department of Rural Reconstruction, and requesting support for Liberty Hyde Bailey and Boshi Sen. Leonard writes in March from Rangoon and Singapore, and in April and May from Peking, having embarked on a cross-cultural mission with Rabindranath Tagore. Leonard's letter, 6 May 1924, refers to Buddhism, Lao Tze, and P C Chang, and bears a small drawing by artist Nandalal Bose. He writes again from Tokyo, 26 June 1924, of his intention to return to New York by the end of July. An undated letter discusses Gretchen Green, and Leonard's desire to start a school based on the principles of Surul in England. Later letters mention emotions, spirituality, and Tagore.
