Aktivitet | Pianist. Studied with Donald Tovey at Edinburgh University. In 1927 he went to Germany to pursue his studies with Edwin Fischer, he also studied harpsichord with Wanda Landowska at her school in Fontainbleau and was at the Royal College of Music from 1931-1934. At the outbreak of the Second World War he broke his career as pianist with the newly formed Robert Masters Quartet, Dartington Hall, where he also taught, to serve in the Intelligence Section of the Royal Air Force. After the war he toured with the Robert Masters Quartet. He later worked for His Masters Voice and during the 1960s became Artistic Director at EMI Records and was responsible for many acclaimed opera recordings. |
