ActivityFounded by A E Malbon. Directors included Albert Mansbridge and L K Elmhirst. Architect was Louis de Soissons. A building contractors alliance, the Society was formed in 1944 in order to rebuild housing stocks. According to Bonham-Carter, Nye Bevan opposed the Society, preferring that postwar housing construction should be controlled and funded by government. The Society did build 100 houses at Bridgetown, Totnes, 217 at Yate near Bristol, 210 at Bridgewater, and 36 at Calne. [Source: Bonham-Carter. The Enterprise of Dartington Hall.
