Person NameInstitute for Research into Agricultural Economics; 1913-1986
ActivityEstablished in 1913 with the aid of a Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Development Commission Grant, as part of the School of Rural Economy. Between 1928-1944 the institute was known as the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AERI). In 1945, the Institution reverted back to its original name and became an independent body whose work included the study of the economics of production, distribution, and consumption of the agricultural products, and rural conditions. The staff of the Institute were to carry out research into these special problems and make them the subject of printed papers, lectures, or informal instruction. In 1971 the Institute merged with the Institute of Agrarian Affairs and moved to Dartington House and became known as the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IAE). On 1 August 1986, the Institute was taken over by Queen Elizabeth House, the University centre for the study of overseas development.
