ActivityIn 1911, the Development Commission wanted to encourage agricultural education and research. A committee was set up to advise them of the best means of contributing to the study of animal breeding problems. A centre was founded known as the Department of Research in Animal Breeding, managed by the Joint Committee and funded by the University of Edinburgh, the Development Commission and the Board of Agriculture for Scotland. In 1930 the Department was renamed the Institute of Animal Genetics.
