| Activity | The Society of Foresters of Great Britain became the Institute of Foresters in 1974 and was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1982. It is the only professional body for forestry, arboriculture and related disciplines in the UK, and Chartered Foresters as the only qualified professional foresters and arborists. Its main objectives were: the maintenance and improvement of the standards of practice and understanding of all aspects of forestry; the protection of the public interest; and the promotion of the professional status of foresters and arborists in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. W E Hiley was president of the Society 1954-1956. |
