Person NameDartington Horticultural Training Workshop; 1979-
ActivityThe Dartington Horticultural Training Workshop was set up in 1979, sponsored by the Trust in its Grounds and Gardens Department with recruitment and funding via Manpower Services Commission (Government vocational training). The DHTW grew out of the ideas of the Dartington Horticultural Training Scheme, and was originally set up to be separate from other MSC Work Experience Programmes, then under the management of The Postern Programme (the early scheme closed in the mid 1970s). In 1981 a Steering Group was set up to be responsible to the Trust and MSC for the management of the HTW and included representatives from the Trust (Secretary, Gardens and Postern programme), DHTW, MSC, industry, unions, careers service, Agricultural training boards.
In 1983 the MSC schemes managed by The Postern Programme were taken on by Dartington Tech, but the relationship until 1985 between the HTW, Gardens department and Dartington Tech continued to be informal and based on co-operation. In 1985 this formally changed with Dartington Tech Limited becoming sponsor on behalf of the Trust, and the Gardens department accepting more of the costs associated with running the DHTW.

In 1989 the activity of DHTW extended to include income generation (plant sales). The DHTW closed in (edit)
