ActivityShingle style house on the estate of William C Whitney at Old Westbury, Long Island, given to Dorothy Straight by her brother Harry Payne Whitney when she was nineteen. Following her marriage to Willard Straight, Dorothy employed Beatrix Farrand to design a formal Chinese garden at Apple Green. Architects Delano and Aldrich were also employed to extend the house and build stables. A Chinese room was built to house Willard's collections of Chinese art and ceramics which it is believed were later donated to Cornell University. It was sold in 1951 and part of the house was pulled down and smaller houses built on the 100 acre estate. A road on the new development was named Elmhirst Drive. In 1953 the contents of Apple Green were auctioned locally and the property was subdivided.
