There are several essay length letters, and one complete undated manuscript or text of a speech (24pp) 'The Idea of a Promethean Religion', which Sheldon delivered as an inauguration address c1937 at the Bureau of Constitutional Study, University of Chicago. A letter postmarked Zurich, 28 Jan 1935, gives Sheldon's impressions of Carl Jung, mentioning Jung's antipathy toward the Freudians. The letter also mentions other psychiatrists. Letters in 1938 mention his research in body type personality studies, Richard Elmhirst, and grants received from the William C Whitney Foundation. There are also several analytical letters from Anna Bogue commenting on Sheldon's work and mental health. A note by Richard Elmhirst, 9 Jan 1978, discusses his association with William Sheldon. Sheldon's long letters to Dorothy Elmhirst offer his observations on Dartington Hall School in 1935, and mentions the arts at Dartington, including Kurt Jooss and other artists (letter, 1 Feb 1935). |
