Most papers relate to community development and a trip made by Leonard Elmhirst and Peter Sutcliffe in 1962/1963 on behalf of the Dartington Hall Trustees, and the proposal for support of a residential centre for further education. Papers include details of flights and trip.

A letter dated 23 Jan 1963 from Leonard Elmhirst to Joseph Nyerere of the Ministry of National Culture and Youth, Dar-es-Salaam, provides some insight into the Trustees' aims in becoming involved in the African culture. Correspondence also includes that between Staverton Contractors Ltd and the Sikh Sawmill Ltd relating to the supply of African timber. A statement dated the 22 Jan 1963 describes the Dartington Hall Trustees' Aims in Tanganyika. Discussion in correspondence also concerns the East African income tax.
