Correspondence with organisations working on behalf of China include papers of the Anglo-Chinese Development Society Ltd of London, which was set up to assist the Chinese Industrial Co-operative movement, and of which Leonard Elmhirst was a board member from 1943-1946.
Boxes 3 and 4 contain papers relating to the USSR. There is correspondence with Ivan Maisky, Soviet ambassador referring to Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst's stay at the White House and discussing diplomatic relations between America and the USSR.
Box 5 relates to Africa; Bahamas; Bhutan, Tibet, Sikkim (in one folder); Burma; Canada; Ceylon; Iraq; Japan; Palestine; Philippines; and West Indies. The Palestine folders include correspondence with Dora Wollner who describes life on a farm settlement in Palestine (afterwards Israel). |
