ActivityPotter. Born and brought up in Stoke-on-Trent. In 1922, aged 14, he began an eight year apprenticeship with Mintons. Left to study at the Art School in Newcastle-under-Lyme with the wish to become an individual potter in his own right. Studied at Leach Pottery, St.Ives from 1931. He joined Bernard Leach at Shinner's Bridge Pottery in early 1932, and also taught pottery at Dartington Hall School. Established his own pottery at Bramblemoor, Broadhempston, in 1952. He worked at Dartington for nearly 50 years, both at the Dartington Hall School and at the Adult Education Centre where he taught from 1947. He retired in c1969.
