DescriptionF Dickinson had attended the first International Conference of Agricultural Economists at Dartington Hall in 1929 and afterwards kept up the correspondence contained in this folder with Leonard Elmhirst, from the Faculty of Education, West China Union University at Chengtu, Szechuan, where he was involved in agriculture including dairying, fruit trees and poultry. His letters include references to the political situation with descriptions of events taking place: both the Japanese and the 'Reds' are mentioned. He sent bulbs and seeds to Dartington Hall and there is correspondence re their importation. Mention is made of a Professor D S Dye, Dr Edward H Hume, who made extensive study of medical institutions in China and to Dr A Stamper of the Health Section of the League of Nations (1936). In 1936 Dickinson is writing from the College of Agriculture, Aberystwyth, Wales and there is a letter from him from the aforementioned address in China in 1946. Reports of The West China Union University between 1932 and 1934 are also included, as well as press cuttings. Various photographs are also included with the correspondence (LKE/OVR/C/1/B/001-022).
