Description | Records series accumulated by Deirdre Hurst du Prey consisting of alphabetical subject and correspondence files broadly relating to Michael Chekhov, drama, speech and movement education, teaching, the Chekhov Theatre Studio (1936-1942) and the Michael Chekhov Studio (1980-1982). Includes some records of Deirdre's work teaching at the Waldorf School, Garden City, New York, and at Adelphi University Children's Centre for the Creative Arts, where she was an adjunct assistant professor. Surviving records of the Chekhov Theatre Studio (CTS) are important as the bulk of the official records of the Studio, which had been stored in New York, were destroyed after World War II. Deirdre du Prey collected records of the Chekhov Studio, and also personal papers, literary manuscripts, and photographs of students and lecturers at Dartington including Georgette Boner, Michael and Xenia Chekhov, Blair Cutting, Richard Jones, Felicity Cumming Mason, Eleanor Faison, Ford Rainey, Paul Rogers, Beatrice Straight and Peter Tunnard, among others. |
