| Activity | Dancer. Invited to Dartington in 1933 (date possibly 1934) to perform and for a limited period taught and gave demonstrations before returning to India, where with the assistance of Beatrice Straight, by 1940 he had founded the Uday Shankar India Culture Centre at Simtola, near Almora in the Himalayas. The Centre specialised in training the dancers in the art of creativity, improvisation, concentration and imagination. He devised a course for training of a dancer in various related aspects of the performing arts.

Uday Shan-Kar and his Hindu dancers will give an Open Air Theatre performance on 26th May, on his way back from a world tour and returning home to India. A bus from Dartington Church will collect people from Broome Park and Huxhams Cross and will meet in the Garage Yard for the return trip.
Uday Shankar will give a performance by firelight in the Open-Air Theatre.
