Person NameNuffield College Social Reconstruction Survey; 1941-1944
ActivityWar-time research committee based at Oxford University. Its purpose was to make an objective study of pre-war trends and war-time developments in British economic and social conditions, and in doing so to provide firm foundations for the determination of policy in the fields of reconstruction. It was felt that, though the final determination of policy was bound to be a matter from the government, an objective analysis of trends and possibilities could be of considerable value when the time came for deciding courses, and for framing a general policy of reconstruction in both home and international affairs.

Devon area - Christopher Martin (Arts Administrator for Dartington Hall) was Chief Local Investigator. Also involved were - Dr W K Slater, Managing Director, Dartington Hall; Michael Young, PEP London; C E McNally, Dartington Hall School; A P Cox, Dartington Hall, Arts Department.
