DescriptionThe folder contains two albums, partly indexed, of typed transcriptions of correspondence with the Chinese poet Tsemou Hsu, also known as Xu Zhimo and as Hsu Chih-mo. One album includes a transcription of a letter from Chinese liberal philosopher Hu Shih. Also included in the folder are negatives and photographs of Chinese writing. The original letters from Tsemou Hsu are contained in this file with copies of Leonard Elmhirst's replies. A letter from Hsu dated 10 Jul 1925 written in Dorchester describes a meeting with Thomas Hardy. Other letters are from China, Paris, the United Kingdom, the USA and Santiniketan, India. There is a letter from Hu Shih, dated 26 Dec 1926. Article 'Cambridge as I see it' by Tseng-Tsai Wang, Lent 1964, Trinity Review, includes reference to Hsu Chih-mo.
