TitleThe Challenge to the Public School Ethos
DescriptionLeonard Elmhirst's copy of a report by Lambert. "Public Schools have an ethos, distinctive and powerfully formative, which is a major factor in their divisiveness in our society. If a large number, say a half, of their pupils were to enter at secondary level from state day school backgrounds, what elements of that ethos would be challenged? This paper defines the ethos, the areas of probable conflict, and suggests what would have to be done if "integration" were to be effective, and if the schools were to be used to meet any national "need" for boarding education."
