Subjects include: the general management and development of woodlands at Dartington and other estates; Wilfred E Hiley's research into the economics of woodland management, Post-War Forest Policy for Private Woodlands, and the Dedication Scheme; forestry education and training for woodmen including a course in the 'Management of Estate Woodlands'; the conversion of the Woodlands Department into Dartington Woodlands Limited and the formation of an independent Woodlands Research Department; and the establishment and activities the Home Grown Timber Marketing Association, the South Devon Woodland Owners Association, the National Home Grown Timber Council, and a Joint Committee between the Home Grown Timber Marketing Association and the Royal English Forestry Society.
